Ideas To Amp Up Your Bakery's Gourmet Cupcakes

Gourmet cupcakes have long been a top seller at many bakeries. Guests love how portable and personal they are. But if your bakery has been making gourmet cupcakes for a while, the recipes and formulas you're using might be starting to feel a bit mundane and routine. Are you looking to change things up and make those gourmet cupcakes unique again? Here are a few ideas to help you do so.

Use nuts and seeds for a semi-savory cupcake.

The words "savory" and "cupcake" may not go together in your mind. But if you incorporate a savory note into the cupcake, it can actually be a nice contrast to the sweetness of the cupcake itself and its icing. A good way to get these savory notes is to blend some salted nuts or seeds into the batter. Sunflower seeds work really well. About 1/4 cup of them in enough batter to make a dozen cupcakes is a good starting point. You could also use 1/4 cup of salted peanuts, although you'll want to give them a rough chop before stirring them into the batter.

Fill them with real fruit.

Instead of filling your cupcakes with fruity pie filling or cake filling, consider making your own, real fruit mixture to use as a filling. Strawberries macerated in some sugar and cognac work well. Blueberries soaked in honey also work well. You'll need to cut a little hole in each cupcake and insert the fruit filling. The frosting will hide the filling and the hole. These cupcakes should be eaten the same day they are made to avoid spoiling, so only make a few at a time.

Put a candy bar in the middle.

You've probably topped your gourmet cupcakes with candy bars and candy bar chunks before, but have you put a candy bar inside? Use a little less batter for each cupcake tin than you normally would. Once the tin is "full," gently push a miniature-sized candy bar into the center of each cupcake tin. Then, bake the cupcakes as you normally would. Let them cool a little longer than usual to make sure the chocolate on the candy bars is fully solidified before you move and frost them.

With the ideas above, you can make your gourmet cupcakes more creative again. These ideas are just the start of many delicious, incredible creations that are well worth sharing with your customers.
